Introduction to Situational Awareness
Situational awareness means having an adequate contextual understanding of the current environment, situation or system and the ability to anticipate future states or variations.
Good situational awareness leads to effective planning and decision making across many industries (e.g. aviation, healthcare, engineering, manufacturing etc.) and is considered a critical competency in sectors and workplaces with dynamic and fast-changing operational realities.

Part 1 - Scenario-based Learning (set in an astronaut training facility)
Explore Situational Awareness Fundamentals at the Astra Academy:
- Identify the 3 components of situational awareness
- Outline the 3 level process for effective situational awareness
- Identify the factors that influence situational awareness and how to manage them
Part 2 - VR based Immersive Learning Experience (set inside a lunar expedition)
- Apply the basics of situational awareness to successfully complete a high-risk lunar expedition where a number of factors have to be taken into consideration while completing mission tasks.

Part 1:
Explore Situational Awareness Fundamentals at ASTRA Academy

Part 2:
Apply Situational Awareness Basics in a VR Lunar Expedition
In this immersive experience, the learner is required to use their knowledge of situational awareness fundamentals, to successfully complete a lunar expedition simulation where a number of factors such as solar storms and radiation exposure, limited oxygen supply and collective team health have to be taken into consideration while completing the overall mission tasks.
The experience tests and reinforces the ability of the learner to go through the Situational Awareness levels of perception, comprehension and projection, in order to make the right decisions in a high-risk and fast moving environment.
